The flexible seating program in my classroom gives students the opportunity to sit in a variety of seating options instead of exclusively sitting in traditional chairs. This project was born from the realization that since my students all had different learning and social-emotional needs, they probably also had different seating needs, as well. I had seen classrooms using flexible seating on the internet and immediately recognized the benefits if implemented correctly. I always want my students to have every possible chance to succeed and feel good about their progress. I am a big fan of student choice and like to give my students the power to succeed on their own terms as often as possible. Flexible seating is a way for students to make choices that help them do their work successfully. I have found that the flexible seating program in my classroom empowers students, keeps them engaged in their own learning, and increases their work completion. The students also really like it, too!
